“It doesn’t matter who he is,” I said calmly, taking my seat and pulling it back to the desk. “If she wants to hook up with someone a week after she leaves me, that’s her prerogative.”
“Exactly,” Becky chuckled. “I mean, if it weren’t for the fact that you’re still married.”
Something like hope bloomed in my chest, but I had no idea why. It didn’t matter if she was married to me or not. We didn’t even have rings. And yet…
“You’re right. We are married. She’s cheating.”
“You could get her for spousal abandonment.”
“Is that a thing?”
“If it’s not, it should be.”
“Yeah,” I agreed, getting to my feet once again. “I mean, the least she could have done was wait until the papers were signed.”
“Exactly. She got you into this mess. She can get you out of it.”
“Precisely. It was her fault the mafia was after us. It was her doppelgänger that got us into that mess.”
“That’s just what I was going to say.”
“I was just there having a good time, blowing off some steam. You know, it’s because of her that I missed that trial.”
“I heard. It really caused a huge mess that Cap had to clean up.”
“Yeah,” I scoffed, shaking my head at the ignorance of this woman. “And she had the nerve to leave me without even giving this thing a chance.”
“Who does that?” Becky huffed.
“My thoughts exactly. Who does that? Who just abandons their spouse after he saves her life and does everything possible to save a hooker from execution? You know, I could have handed Alicia over, and no one would have been the wiser.”
“And did she thank you?”
I scoffed again. “Alicia or Krista? Neither one of them was very grateful.”
“Not that you would want Alicia to be too grateful. Infectious diseases and all that.”
“Right, but Krista? She should have been on her knees, begging me to take her right there, on the spot. I brought her home. I shared my house with her. You know, she didn’t even stay a week! That’s not really giving me a chance.”
“Yeah, now we’re just going around in circles.”
“Well, I’m not going in circles anymore,” I scoffed. “We’re still married, and until the ink is dry on our divorce, she’s not shacking up with some buffed up He-man!”
“You tell her!”
I took off, ready to get my woman back and show her who was boss.
“Oh, and Rob?”
“Yeah?”
“I wouldn’t mention the part about this being all her fault. That’s not how you win her back.”
“Gotcha,” I grinned, racing out of the building.
I got in my truck and flew home, packing just enough for a quick trip out there. If I was lucky, I’d bring her back with me. If not…a trip to Vegas was in order.
I booked the flight and was just about to leave when Knight pulled up in his truck. He sighed, shaking his head at me when he saw the bag.
