But none of those things necessarily equated to his loving her. Hell for all she knew, he was counting down the days until she flew back to Indiana, and he was free of her forever.

She didn’t think that was the case. At least, she hoped not. But given recent events, she didn’t feel now was the time to broach that particular conversation.

Izzy, on the other hand, apparently had other ideas.

“So. What’s the deal with you and Olly?”

“I…um…I mean, I think your brother’s great.”

Geez. Could you sound more like a bumbling twelve year old?

But Izzy just laughed. “Yeah, I kinda got that part. I mean, where do you see the two of you going from here?”

It was almost as if the woman could read her mind.

And Scarlett didn’t have the energy to lie. “Honestly? I have no idea.”

“Well…how do you feel about him? And please, feel free to tell me to mind my own business. It’s just that…”

“What?”

Izzy flashed her a smile before returning her focus back to the empty stretch of road. “I’ve never seen my brother this happy.”

Her heart swelled, and butterflies danced in her belly. “Really?”

The other woman nodded. “Really. I think…and I know I might be speaking way out of turn here, but I think you’re really good for him, Scarlett. But again, I’m not trying to pry or pressure you into anything you don’t feel is?—”

“I love him.”

Shit.

Had she really just said that? Out loud? To Olly’ssister?

Izzy swung her gaze back to Scarlett’s, nearly swerving the car out of her lane in the process. “You…did you just say youlovehim?”

Crap, crap, crap. Damage control. Quick. You need to do some major damage control.

“I mean…what I meant to say was…” Oh, it was no use. “Yeah.” Scarlett fell back against her seat. “I know it’s stupid fast and probably makes me sound crazy, but?—”

“It’s fast.” Izzy nodded. “But you’re not crazy.”

“No?”

Though she would’ve thought it impossible, the other woman’s smile grew even wider. “No, Scarlett. Trust me. I’m sort of an expert in the field of mental health.”

“Right.” She released a small chuckle at Izzy’s obvious attempt at humor. “It’s just…I don’t know. There’s just something about him. From the moment we met, there’s been this unbreakable connection, you know?”

“As a matter of fact, I do.” Izzy nodded. “That’s how it was with me and Grady. How itstillis.”

“So you guys…you knew pretty quickly, too?”

“He knew before I did. Or rather, I wouldn’t allow myself to see it at first. But yeah. It was there from the start. And from the sound of things, you and Olly have that, too.”

“I don’t know. We haven’t exactly talked about us or the future or anything like that. And I fly back to Indiana in two days, so I don’t know that we’ll even get the chance to?—”

Scarlett’s words were cut off as she was thrown forward, toward the dash. Her seatbelt locked up tight, the damn thing nearly cutting into the skin at her neck.

“What the hell?”
