Brody didn’t just come. Heerupted.Still he managed to hold her steady as they rode wave after wave of the ecstasy crashing over them both.

When the trembling ceased and their movements slowed, Ro’s limp form fell lazily over his. His chest heaved, his racing heart kicking his chest as hers pounded against him at the same heightened pace.

Holding her warmth in his tight embrace, Brody managed to pant out a facetious, “And this is where I die.”

Ro giggled, the sound as adorable as the woman creating it. “Oh, yeah.” A breathless agreement. “I’m definitely…a goner.”

She lifted her head, bringing those sated, heavy-lidded eyes to his. Brody’s lungs froze half-a-second before his chest swelled with a sense of primal male pride.

He’d done that. He’dput that look on her face. And as he lay there, soaking in the breathtaking view, Brody realized it was a look he wanted to give her every day for the rest of his life.

The rest of your life, huh? You sure about that?

Ro put her mouth on his, the sweet, sensual kiss the only answer he needed. Hell yes, he was sure. He just needed to figure out a way to tell her.

“I’m going to hop in the shower.” She pressed her lips to his once more. “Wanna join me?”

Why yes. Yes, he did.

Hours later,Brody was lying fast asleep with Ro curled up in his arms when a blaring alarm pierced the otherwise silent air. Recognizing it as his home’s security system, he shot straight up and grabbed the pistol he always kept on his nightstand.

Pointing it outward, he scanned their immediate area. Thankfully there was no threat in sight.

“Wha…what’s going on?” Ro sat up in a sleepy haze. Brushing some hair from her blinking eyes as she looked first at him and then the gun. “Brody, what’s—”

“It’s the alarm.” He threw the blankets off his legs and jumped to his feet. Remembering he was naked, Brody set the pistol down long enough to pull on the sweats Ro had yanked off of him the night before. “Call Christian. Tell him to get the team here as fast as he can.”

“The team?” She was already pulling on his old shirt. Wincing as she worked her injured arm into its sleeve, Ro swung her terrified gaze to the door. “Do you think it’s him? The person who shot me?”

“Don’t know.” It was a lie. Hell yes, he thought it was their guy.

No way the timing’s a coincidence.

“Shouldn’t we call the police first?”

“Alarm system already has.”

“I want to come with you.”

“Absolutely not.”

“Brody, please. What if there’s more than one of them? Y-you could be walking into some sort of trap. Or what if—”

He was across the room and cupping her face before she could finish the thought. “This is what I do, Princess. Now I need you to trust me. Can you do that?”

“I do trust you,” she insisted.”

“Good.” He gave her a hard, fast kiss. “Call Christian and lock the door behind me. Do not answer it for anyone other than me or one of the team. Got it?”

She nodded shakily. “Please be careful. I can’t…” Ro palmed one of his cheeks. “I can’t lose you, too.”

His chest tightened, knowing she was thinking of the loss of her parents. “You won’t.” He gave her another quick kiss—because he couldn’t walk away from her without one—and then Brody spun on his bare heels and left the room.

Clearing the immediate space, he kept the lights off to conceal his presence. With the deafening alarm still blaring, it was impossible to hear his intruder’s movements which made the situation even more volatile.

Brody’s pulse raced, but with anger rather than fear. This wasn’t some glitch, nor was it some stray cat that had tripped his alarm. The system didn’t work that way.

He knew because he’d helped design and install the damn thing.
