“You don’t believe me?”
Ro inched impossibly closer, her breasts pressing up against his blood-stained shirt. Dark, crimson stains he’d gotten while scooping her into his arms and racing them both to safety.
But she didn’t see the blood, then. She didn’t see anything but…
Him.
The man who’d risked his own life tonight in an effort to save hers. A man who was holding her close and whose eyes had just glinted with an unmistakable need.
He feels it, too.
“I believe you,” she whispered honestly. “I just hate that I can’t remember it.”
His thick, masculine throat worked with an audible swallow, but those fiery eyes stayed with hers. “We could fix that, you know.” Another swallow. “Can’t make you remember that night, but we could—”
“Try it again?” Ro finished for him, praying they were on the same page. “I mean, it’s only fair, really.”
A single dark brow lifted high. “Fair?”
“Sure. Think about it. You know what it’s like to kiss me.” Her gaze dropped to his tempting mouth. “To taste me. But I…I have no idea what it feels like to kiss you.”
“Hmm. I see your point.” He filled his lungs before releasing what appeared to be a very serious sigh. “Well, I guess there’s really only one thing left for us to do.”
Ohmygod. Was this really happening? Was the one man who’d managed to make her dream of a future really going to—
Brody pressed his lips to hers.
Soft and warm, his feathery whiskers created the most tantalizing friction that sent her pulse racing. Ro opened for him, the tentative meeting of their tongues lasting only a second before…
Passion exploded as he began to devour her in the way she’d always imagined. Only this wasn’t like in her dreams. This was better.
So much better.
Brody tasted and teased as she nibbled and licked. Careful of her bandaged arm and the bump she’d gotten earlier when she’d fallen, he guided her head in a slight tilt for a better angle, allowing them both to dive in for more.
A primal growl reverberated from somewhere deep inside him as he devoured her in a way she’d never experienced before. Almost as if she were his favorite meal, and he was a starving man.
Ro released a small whimper of pleasure as she fisted the front of his soiled shirt. And as they continued to feasting on one another with reckless abandon, she reveled in the fact that she was finally, finallytasting what her heart had longed for all these years.
But then…
She felt him start to pull away slowly, and though the last thing she wanted was for the most incredible kiss of her existence to end, Ro let him break the breath stealing connection without a fight.
Brody’s heaving breaths matched her own, and while he’d ended the kiss, those strong, callused hands kept their gentle hold on the sides of her face. Though his dark beard made it difficult, she could almost make out the flush of arousal filling the skin underneath.
She’d most definitely felt the other, moreobvioussign that he was as turned on as her. Kind of hard to miss something so big and…hard…as the impressive bulge that had been pressing against her lower belly from the start of the kiss to the end.
Even now, she was so tempted to let her gaze drop to the source of her not-so-hidden desires. But the blazing heat staring back at her made it impossible to look away.
“Think you’ll remember that?” A low, rough rumble.
“For as long as I live.”
At first, she worried her whispered confession was too much. Perhaps a tad too desperate. But then something magical happened…
Brody smiled.
This wasn’t some twitch of his lips or a sort-of-smirk. It was a full-blown, eye-reaching, face-lighting, to-ear smile.
