How did I not notice…her?

The answer to those unspoken questions was simple. Before this past week, Brody hadn’t seen Ro as anything more than Megan’s best friend because he hadn’t bothered tolook.

He was damn sure looking now, though. And fuck all if he knew what to do about it.

“We will definitely be in touch, Miss Tennison.” The wife slid Ro’s card into her small, sparkly clutch purse. “The work you’ve done for Clayton speaks for itself.”

“Yes, it’s all very impressive,” the sharply dressed gentleman added.

“Thank you so much. And please, call me Ro.”

“Ro.” The wife grinned. “A name as adorable as its owner. I like it.”

Brody watched and waited, already knowing what came next.

Three…two…

A crimson hue crept into Ro’s porcelain cheeks.

There it is.

Something else he’d noticed, as of late…compliments made the talented woman blush. Not that he’d given her a lot the last few days.

Ro had spent most of the past week holed up in her home office while he and the team focused on her case. A case that, so far, had turned out to be a dead end.

Between his frustrations with that and his burgeoning feelings for Ro, Brody had thought it best to keep their interactions to a minimum. Apparently Ro thought the same.

Though she’d instantly let him off the hook for his confessed behavior that night in her kitchen, Ro had also been noticeably distant. They’d slept under the same roof, but he’d barely seen her.

While he spent his days working on stuff for Delta Team and looking into her break-in and drugging, she’d been working on projects for various clients and last-minute to-dos for Yorke. When Brody ate in the kitchen or living room, Ro took most of her meals to her desk, and ate while she worked.

He stayed up late. She went to bed early. He woke early. She was already in her office with her door shut.

At first, Brody was convinced she was secretly pissed at him for having kissed her back. God knows, he still felt like an ass for not having more self-control that night. But she hadn’tseemedupset with him when he’d finally confessed it all.

She’d been blushing up a storm and falling all over herself with unnecessary apologies to show even a hint of anger or resentment toward him.

There’d been multiple times during his stay at her house when Brody had started to ask her about it, but truth be told, her vanishing acts had been a relief most days. Not because he didn’t want to be around her…but because he did.

Around her.

On her.

Under her.

Hell, just plain wantedher. And he had no fucking clue what to with that.

“We’ll be sure to reach out so we can set up a time to chat.” The wife held out her hand for Ro.

The two women shook on it, followed by the same shared gesture with the husband. When the couple finally moved on, Ro turned to him with a smile that lit up the entire room.

“Did you hear that? They wantmeto redesign their charity’s website!”

Her joy was so contagious, Brody couldn’t help but smile right along with her. “That’s great, Ro. I’m proud of you.”

“Thanks.” She beamed. “I’m proud of me, too.”

His chest swelled. This was the Ro he was used to seeing. Not the quiet, withdrawn woman he’d been rooming with this past week. No, his Ro was confident and full of life. Ready and willing to take on the world.
