“No.” Her answer came in a rush. “I mean, I…” Another nervous lick of her lips. “I don’t mind.”
His heart kicked. “No?”
With his arms still around her, Brody’s eyes fell back to her lips. Holyfuck, it was hard not to take her mouth again. But there was the business of last night that needed to be dealt with first.
Out of respect for Ro as a friend and whatever else she may become.
“Ro, there’s something I need to tell you,” he rumbled. “It’s…about last night.”
Trepidation flooded over her. “What about last night?”
Just tell her.
“At Meg’s shop this morning, you asked if you’d waited until I fell asleep before taking off your shirt—”
“It’s okay.” Her lids fell shut with an expelled breath. “I kinda figured I wasn’t that lucky.” She opened one squinted eye. “Sorry about that.”
“No need to apologize.” He absentmindedly caressed her back with his thumb. “Just think you deserve to know what happened. Especially given the circumstances.”
“Well I guess if that’s the worst thing I did…” She blushed with a nervous chuckle. “I mean, you’ve seen me in a bikini like a million times before. A bra’s not much different.
Yeah, he had seen her in a bikini, and now he was kicking his own ass for not paying better attention all those times. But she was wrong about the bra.
All that white lace…those dark, rosy shadows only half-hidden… Ro’s bra wasn’t just different than her swimsuits. It was better.
So much better.
“Thatisthe worst thing I did, right?” Her hopeful expression made telling her the truth that much harder.
“Nothing you did was bad, Ro.” It was the God’s honest truth.
Seeing her shirtless…feeling her lips and tongue dancing with his… It had all been really fucking good. So good, in fact, Brody had been able to think of little else since.
“Tell me,” she demanded with a pointed look. When he hesitated, she warned him with a low, drawn out, “Brody…”
“You, uh…” He started but then backtracked a bit. “Just try to remember, you were unknowingly under the influence of an illegal drug, and—”
“For the love of God and all that’s holy, will you please just tell me what I—”
“You kissed me.”
A sudden and total silence filled the air around them, to the point Brody was surprised she couldn’t hear his racing heart. Shock-filled eyes blinked back at him several times as she processed his blurted confession.
“I…w-what did you just…I mean, I really…” Ro sniffed and swallowed, stuttering over her own words. “I-I really…kissedyou? Where?”
“In your living room.”
A dramatic roll of her eyes made his palm twitch with the urge to swat her sexy ass. Not something he’d ever really been into, but for some reason, thiswoman apparently brought it out in him.
“Not where in the house, dummy. I mean where, as in…where on yourbody.”
He fought another smile because this was the Ro he knew and—
Liked. The Ro I know and like. That’swhat I was about to think. Nothing more.
Ignoring the blatant lie he’d just tried telling himself, Brody put Ro out of her misery and told her the truth.
“The lips.”
