“Yes, I do. You’ve been...incredible. I mean, you literally saved my life, and I guess...I don’t know.” She exhaled. “I think everything just sort of hit me all at once.”
“We’re going to catch this guy, Emma.”
“I know.”
“I don’t think you do.” Taking a step closer, Trace cupped one side of her face and held her gaze. “We will catch him. Until then, I will be right here with you. And I promise, I won’t let anything happen to you.”
In an unplanned move, Emma rose to her tiptoes and pressed her lips to his. It was a soft, sweet kiss. One she felt him leaning into. But this time, shewas the one to pull away.
“Goodnight, Trace,” she whispered as she took a step back.
“Goodnight.”
In her bedroom, Emma closed the door behind her. Leaning against it, she brought her fingertips to her lips and smiled.
Was it possible for something so wonderful to come from something so tragic? Only time would tell.
But as she laid back down and closed her eyes, Emma prayed this real-life nightmare would have a happy ending.
Chapter 10

Four days later...
“Tell me you found them.”
“Not yet, sir. But we will.”
Sadiq Khaled fought the urge to throw his phone across the room. “You’ve been saying that for days. Use your connections and find them!”
“It’s not that simple. These guys are good. They took out three of my best men!”
“Then I guess you overestimated your men’s abilities.”
“That doesn’t even matter, now. The agent in charge is keeping this whole thing in-house. Only he and his team know where McQueen’s people are being kept.”
