Emma’s pretty face fell into a frown. “Trace?”

“The man they found...he’s dead.”

“What?” Coop shot him an incredulous look. “What the hell do you mean, he’s dead? How?”

“Don’t know yet.” Trace shrugged. “West wants me to bring Emma to the ME’s office so she can make a positive ID.”

“You’ve got to be shitting me.”

“Coop—” Mac tried to calm the man down.

“No.” The other man scowled. “My sister’s been through enough. She doesn’t need to have some dead guy’s face burned into her memory. You know what that shit’s like.”

“This wasn’t my idea.” Trace’s words were gritted. “I asked if they could send us a picture instead, but there can’t be any doubt on this. I don’t like it any more than you do, but I get it.”

“He’s right, Sean.” Emma stepped forward, her arms crossed at her chest. “I’m the only one who saw him. If I can ID him as the bomber, then we’ll know for sure Jake’s attempted murderer is no longer a threat. Not to Jake or any of us.”

“I don’t want you to have to do this.”

Emma’s expression softened as she took her brother’s hand in hers. “I’m not exactly thrilled about the idea either, but...I have to do this, Sean.”

The brother and sister duo remained at a standoff until Coop finally relented.

Releasing a muttered curse, he pulled Emma in for a hug. “You’ve always been so damn stubborn.”

“Me?”

“Wow.” Mac snickered loudly. “If that’s not the pot calling the kettle black...”

But Coop didn’t smile. Instead, he turned his focus back to Trace. “She does this, I want you with her.”

“Not a question.” Trace looked at Emma. “But we need to get going.”

“Do you know where it is?”

“Trevor sent me the address.”

“Okay.” Drawing in a deep breath, Emma let it out slowly. Then, with a straight spine and her adorable chin jutted, she pulled her keys from her purse and said, “I’ll follow you there.”
