“Let’s go.” He started for Jake’s truck.

“Jesus Christ.” Jake caught up to him. “Will you sit down before you fall on your ass?”

“Works for me. I can sit in your truck while you drive.”

“Fuck me.” Jake shook his head and growled. “The cops are going to want to take your statement.”

“I’ll give it to them later. After we find Sophie.”

“You don’t even know where to start looking.”

His hand slid to his pocket, thinking he could call his team in on this, as well. But then remembered Jake telling him Sophie had used his phone. “Shit.” He stopped cold. “My phone.”

“What about it?”

“I need to bring my team in on this.”

Because this was Sophie. For her, he neededallhands on deck.

“I’ve got it.” Trevor raced back down the hill to the car. A few agonizing seconds later, he was jogging toward them, shaking his head. “It’s not there.”

“The fuck you mean, it’s not there? It has to be.”

Jake hollered for the others on the scene to get quiet. Jason watched as the other man pulled his own phone out. He tapped Jason’s number then put it on speaker.

The men waited and listened. Through Jake’s speaker they could hear Jason’s phone ringing. But that was the only thing they heard.

“It’s not here.” He shot Jake a look. “Sophie must’ve taken it with her.”

“Smart.” Trevor put a hand on Jason’s shoulder. “Now we can track her location.”

For the first time since he’d regained consciousness, Jason was filled with hope.

Hope that shestillhad the phone, and that she wasn’t far away

And hope that he could reach the woman he loved in time to save her.
