“So we’re back to he’s either dead or he’s being held against his will.”
“Most likely, yes.” He nodded.
“For his sake and that of his family, I hope he’s at least still alive.”
“So do I, sweetheart.” He gave her hand a gentle squeeze. “So do I.”
Chapter 4
––––––––
Jason forced himselfto keep his hands at his sides as he walked Sophie to her door. He wanted to reach for her. To place his hand on the small of her back.
To touch her again, even if it was in the smallest of ways.
When he’d held her hand, earlier, his intention had been to offer comfort. But just like when she’d grabbed his hand on the plane a few weeks ago, his entire body had felt the jolt from her touch.
Imagine what kissing her would be like.
Hehadbeen imagining it. All. Fucking. Night. Long.
“Thanks, again for dinner.” She stopped in front of her door and faced him. “I know it was business, but I still had a really nice time.”
“I did, too.”
A stretch of thick, awkward silence passed between them.
Either kiss her or walk away.
Jason knew what hewantedto do. More than anything, he wanted to lean in, take her mouth in his, and finally taste what he’d been craving for the past four years.
But like the dumbass he was, he heard himself say, “I should probably go.”
“Okay.” Sophie gave him a little nod. “Goodnight, Jason.”
“Goodnight, Sophie.”
