Other than the muffled sounds of a city being destroyed, the trip out of the city was fairly quiet. In fact, it wasn’t until they parked the car at the Djibouti International Airport that Sophie finally spoke up.

“Now what?”

Jason turned to her and said, “Now, we go home.”

Chapter 2

“You gonna tell me whatthe fuck that was all about?”

Jason looked up from his laptop, surprised to see Jake McQueen sitting in the seat beside him. He’d been so lost in his thoughts, he hadn’t even noticed the guy walking up.

“What?”

“You know what.”

Working damn hard not to react, he went back to the report he hadn’t really been working on. “If I knew, I wouldn’t have asked.”

Before he could stop him, Jake’s hand snaked out and slammed the computer shut, barely missing Jason’s fingertips in the process.

“What the hell, McQueen?”

“Good.” The cocky bastard smiled. “Now your focus is on me.”

“Narcissistic much?” He lifted a brow.

Matching him, Jake shot back with, “Avoiding much?”

There was a slight pause before Jason flipped his computer open again and started typing. “I’m not avoiding shit, asshole. I’m trying to put a dent in the mound of paperwork I now have thanks to this op.”

“An opyourequested to join. Why was that, again?”

Ignore the smug bastard.

“Oh, that’s right.” Jake snapped his fingers and continued on. “Our mutual friend was in danger.”

His back teeth ground together. “An entire group of American volunteers was in danger, Jake.”
