I told my parents. They were excited.

Is it bad if I gloat and tell you I told you so?

I laugh right as my brother and Olive step onto the porch.

"What’s happening here? Why are we smiling like that?" My sister-in-law slides onto the loveseat beside me, trying to peek at my phone.

"None of your business." I pull the phone away, hiding it in the crook of my arm and typing with one hand.

Gloat away, just know it’ll cost you.

Ask me how scared I am… the answer is NOT AT ALL.

Okay, Ms. Wells. We’ll see. Are you up for a beach day on Wednesday?

I can see her text bubbles appear and disappear a few times.

"Is it the girl from the store? Sadie?" Olive asks, trying to stretch her torso so she can peek over my shoulder.

I raise an eyebrow at her, tucking the phone into my pocket. "Wouldn’t you like to know?"

"That didn’t sound like a no," Bridget coos, joining us on the porch.

Nora follows her. "Oh, what game are we playing? Guess who Max is texting? That one’s my favorite." She claps her hands, takes a chair directly across from me, and taps her chin with her finger like she’s deep in thought.

My phone dings, and everyone stares at me. "Okay, fine, assholes. Yes, it’s Sadie. And yes, we are sorta hanging out?"

Olive elbows me in the ribs. "Sorta hanging out? What the heck does that mean?"

"It means I need a plus one for your wedding. And also maybe don’t tell her when it is so I can make it a whole thing." I wiggle my brows at Olive, and she laughs, shaking her head.

"Fine." She holds up a finger. "But no drama. You’re only bringing her if things are good because it’s going to be perfect."

"I’ll see what I can do," I say, pulling my phone out to check Sadie’s response.

I’m in. Let me know what time.

I’ll pick you up at 11:00.

Mom pushes through the screen door, carrying a tray of champagne. "Did Max tell you the good news?"

"Jesus, Ma. No one poured bubbly when Olive agreed to a date with me. Max is just sorta hanging out with her, and we’re toasting?" Sam grumbles.

"Well, that would've been weird since I crashed that family dinner." Olive smiles at him sweetly, reaching out to stroke his arm.

Mabel places the tray of drinks onto a small coffee table between us. "Hanging out with whom? I was talking about his new job that’s half-way across the world."

My siblings all look at me with a mixture of amusement and disbelief.

Facing the peanut gallery, I fill them in. "I’m taking an equipment manager position with the Titans. Moving to Seattle in a little less than a month."

"And you thought now would be a good time to start dating someone? Long distance never works," Bridget chimes in, grabbing a glass of champagne and downing it.
