“We’re not going to find them,” Trigger growls through gritted teeth.
“Oh, we’ll find them,” I state firmly. I wasn’t giving up until we had Kinley back where she belongs. “When we do, we’ll show them just what happens when you fuck with the Kings.”
I’m tired of the bullshit games. This bastard is going to get what’s coming his way.
“Damn right, we are.” Brimstone sneers, fury radiating off him. “She better be breathing and not one of them when we find her.”
“You read the journals, just like I did,” I tell him. “You know they haven’t turned her. She’s been nothing more than a feeding source for them.”
I didn’t have to say the rest of it out loud. It fucks with my head that I had to read it as it were. Pyro’s bitch of a mother wrote everything down. I mean everything in great detail. Including watching what those fuckers did in front of her to my sister’s best friend. The fuck of it is, the woman had even cast a spell on Kinley to make her beg for them to keep going.
“We’ll keep looking and find her,” Fire growls as he pulls out his ringing phone and answers. “You okay?”
The way Fire’s voice softens tells who he’s on the phone with.
It’s sickening to think about how my little sister can do that to the man. But I know my brother, and the fact that he loves my sister. He’d do anything for her. Hell, when I first found out about them, Fire took twenty-two lashes to his back for being with her without coming to me first. It’s something you don’t do without showing disrespect to not just me, but the club as well. Still, he took the lashes I’d given him without complaint, claiming my sister as his.
I make my way back to my bike with the others as Fire follows, ignoring the call because I don’t need to listen to what the two of them are talking about. As long as she’s safe at the clubhouse, where I know for a fact we left her ass, then there’s nothing to worry about.
“We’ll head over there and take a look.” Fire grunts and tells my sister he loves her and all that lovey-dovey shit they do.
I swear with him, Inferno, and now Pyro having women things have changed. I can’t say it’s not for the better, but damn if I hate change. I’m not one for shit changing on me and never have been. I don’t like surprises. I didn’t need that in my life.
“Where do we have to head?” I ask, glancing in my brother’s direction.
“Evelin said McKenna called her about some strange noises at the house. Like whimpering cries or some shit like that. She went looking for it but couldn’t find anything,” Fire says, shoving his phone back in his pocket.
Fuck.
Now I was gonna have to see McKenna for a second time today. I was trying not to have to do that. It’s bad enough my dick twitches at the mention of her. Then there’s the fact I want to see her again in those damn short ass shorts.
What I wouldn’t give to bend her over the hood of her car and take her from behind.
I shake my head to erase that thought ‘cause it wasn’t gonna happen. Never was I going to be getting her into my bed. I’m good with the horas at the clubhouse or going to the bar and finding someone else. I have my share pick of any woman I want.
So, what the hell does it matter about this one? Better yet, why the hell do I even care?
FIVE
MCKENNA
“It’s okay to come out. I’m not going to hurt you,” I whisper, staring into the haunted eyes of the woman I found.
After getting off the phone with Evelin, the owner of my rental for the few weeks I’m here, I went searching farther, trying to find where the noise was coming from, and finally found her.
Just looking at her, at first I thought she was just a child, given how small she is. Only she wasn’t a child at all. Instead, a beaten on the smaller side woman who stared at me with wide eyes that were full of so much fear, I ached for her.
“My name’s McKenna. I just got here yesterday. I’m staying here for a little while to get away from everything,” I tell her, sitting on my ass near the crawl space where I found her. I didn’t want to scare her, and I figured if I shared about who I am, she might come out.
“Actually, I’m not trying to get away from everything for a little while. I came here to hide,” I explain. “You see, someone was stalking me, and my godmother told me to come here.I’ve never actually been here before, but I’ve been through. My parents and I would always go to the beach and take this way to get there. Are you from around here?”
The woman nods slowly and swallows.
“Do you know the people who own the house?” I ask.
Again, she nods.
“I haven’t met the woman, but I’ve met her brother and a guy named Fire,” I say and continue rambling on. “When I got here, her brother, Heat, well, he’s scrumpish, and all I want to do is know what his eyes look like. I’m betting they make him even hotter than he is. Okay, I got off track. Anyway, he brought the keys up to the house for me. Then later on, he found me on the side of the road with a flat. That’s when I met Fire. He’s also good-looking. So were the others with them, but Heat, well, he was hotter than the rest.”
