He chuckled. “I wouldn’t have you living anywhere else or sleeping in any other bed but ours.” His lips met mine. “Our bed.” He swooped down, picked me up, and carried me up the stairs.

I held her tight while her head rested on my chest. She was exactly where she was supposed to be.

“Oh shit,” I said.

“What?” Paige lifted her head and looked at me.

“I forgot to tell you. Laurel had the baby today. Julian is over the moon.” I reached over, grabbed my phone from the nightstand, and opened the picture Julian had sent me.

“She’s cute.” Paige smiled. “Does she look like Julian, or am I imagining things?”

“She does look like him. The Hamilton men have very strong genes,” I smirked.

“I guess so. Roman’s daughter looks just like him,” she said.

I set my phone back on the nightstand and tightened my grip around her.

“Can I ask you something?”

“Sure,” she said.

“Where did you run off to for the last month?”

“I was with Gabriel.”

“Which brings me to my next question. Do I need to be worried about him?”

She breathed out a laugh. “Jealous much? I don’t do jealousy, Hamilton.”

“Nah, I’m not jealous. I was just?—”

“Relax, big guy.” She patted my chest. “Gabriel is like a brother to me.”

“I’d love to meet him,” I said.

“You will.”

“Did you do any jobs while you were away?” I asked.

“One. I did one job. Gabriel found the two men who were behind Hearthstone. They had a facility in Big Sur, hidden up in the mountains. I couldn’t move on until they were no longer a threat to me and to humanity.”

“So you?—”

“I did.” She yawned.

“Let’s get some sleep. Give me those beautiful lips.” I smiled.

She reached up and pressed her lips against mine. What was supposed to be a simple good-night kiss turned into another round of unforgettable sex.

While my mind raced, Paige drifted asleep within minutes. I stared at her and carefully brushed a loose strand of her hair that had fallen across her cheek. She shifted, her arm tightening around me. God, I loved her. And loving her came with questions I hadn’t fully allowed myself to ask yet.

What happens now? Paige didn’t live a normal life. She wasn’t someone who went to an office every morning and came home at five o’clock. She existed in the shadows of her own strategic world. Intelligence, guns, assassinations, and dangerous situations. Would she continue that life now that she was with me? The idea unsettled me. But I made a promise toher, and I needed to tread very carefully if I wanted us to be a couple. The future was something we would figure out together. And at the end of the day, I’d have to adjust just as much as she would have to.
