I nodded. He reached out toward my face, and I flinched back. Chasm pulled his hand back and looked at Sully, then back to me.

“Thank you. I mean that, Jenna. Thank you for protecting her.”

“Does this mean I can come out of my room?” I asked, even though I didn’t expect him to release me. Chasm rubbed the back of his neck.

“Nathan admitted it, Jude,” Sully said, coming to stand in front of her brother. “He admitted he was the one who broke Morgan’s things.”

Chasm looked at Morgan and she nodded. Then, turning back to me, he said, “Yes. You are free to move about the clubhouse. But watch yourself, Jenna. You are here as a curtesy.”

I swallowed hard and nodded.

“Get her cleaned up and meet me downstairs,” he said to Knox, then hugged Sully, whispering in her ear before kissing Morgan and whispering again.

He walked down the hall, and Morgan stepped in front of me. Looking at Knox, she said, “I’ve got her. Go downstairs and make him suffer.”

Knox nodded and looked at me. “You okay?”

“I always am,” I said with a practiced smile.

“Sweetheart, now is not the time for this fake bravado shit. You need me to stay, I’ll stay.”

“I’m fine. I promise.”

I tried for a real smile, but I didn’t have it in me. My face hurt and so did my ankle. Knox studied me for a moment and when he was satisfied, he nodded and said, “Thank you, Morgan.”

“Of course,” she said. When he was far enough to not hear, she whispered, “Can you walk?” The surprise must have shown on my face, because she added, “I can see you favoring your foot.”

I looked down. “I don’t think it’s broken or anything, just sprained maybe.”

“Sometimes, that’s worse.” She looked behind her. “Brian, can you carry Jenna into the main room?”

“Sure thing.” Brian lifted me off my feet and carried me to the couch, setting me down with my feet propped up. “Can I get you anything?”

“Um, I never got the snack and whiskey I came down for,” I said with a chuckle that sounded flat.

“I’ll get it,” Sully said and rushed off before anyone could stop her.

Morgan sat down beside me with the first aid kit. “Let’s get you cleaned up.”

“You don’t have to make a fuss; I’ll be fine.”

Chapter Forty-Four

Morgan

“Nonsense,” I said, dabbing at the cut on Jenna’s lip. She winced, and I tried to be more gentle. “You know, back home, the club in Rosewood has a doctor. Jude needs to see about recruiting someone in the medical field so when someone gets hurt, they can be tended to. I know a little; I have things that you can use to heal faster. A little Arnica will help the bruises fade faster.”

She reached up to her cheek but hesitated. “I must look like a mess,” she said with a sad chuckle.

“You’re still beautiful, even with the cuts and bruises. I’m worried about your ankle, though,” I told her as I put a small butterfly bandage on the cut by her eye. “Did you hit your head at all?”

She reached up and touched the back of her head and nodded.

“A little, but not enough to cause any damage.”

“How can you be sure?” I asked, wanting to get to know Jenna. The way she saved Sully tonight told me I had judged her harshly without getting to know her. I’d let my experience with the whores in Rosewood influence my opinion of her without giving her a fair shot.

“Not my first battle,” she said softly.
