Before I could seek out that particular answer, he sat up, bringing our bodies together, one of his hands going to my back and up my spine. “If I kiss you, are you going to be pissed at me later?”

“Top Gun, there hasn’t been a day in the last three months when I haven’t been pissed at you,” I deadpanned, my heart skipping every other beat, ready to jump out of my chest and into his. My cheeks heated; my breaths turned into pants.

A rough chuckle left him then, and if I wasn’t already on fire, I would’ve melted. “I can live with you being pissed at me, Temper, but I can’t live with you hating me.”

His fingers were in my hair at the base of my skull then, weaving themselves through my locks, settling in as he brought our faces closer. My hands were on his shoulders, our gazes locked, lips inches apart now. “My sweet Temper,” he whispered just as his lips crashed against mine.

My body ignited, my fingers grabbing at his T-shirt as he commanded the kiss, guiding me. Our lips melted together, a cadence of rapid breaths, beating hearts, hurried nibbles, and dancing tongues. He groaned as I opened for him, his tongue plunging inside, taking from me, drinking from me. My hipsarched, pressing my core against him. He yanked my head to the side as his hand at my hip lowered to my ass, taking a handful. I felt him harden underneath me, adding pressure to the seam of my jeans against my clit. I broke the kiss, gasping for air. He growled, his mouth trailing my jaw, his teeth nicking my earlobe before heading down to my neck. I arched my body and neck for him as he trailed scorching-hot kisses over the wings of my butterfly. His hand left my hair, joining his other at my ass, and then he forced me to rock against his erection, growling my name into my skin as I panted for mercy. My eyes rolled back; my fingers slid into his short hair. Then I dragged my nails over his skull.

“Christ, I missed this,” he bit off. “Missed you from the moment my cock left you.”

I gasped, cupped his face in my hands, tipping it back and kissing him. I was wild. Ravenous for something he’d only given me a taste of. “I missed you too, Superman,” I said between my short kisses. “Please don’t leave me again.” He froze underneath me, turning rigid, and my body went on high alert.

Slowly, painfully, his hands fell away from me as I leaned back.

My eyes landed on his and my chest deflated. “I—I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that,” I stammered, removing my hands from him.

“No, you should have,” he urged, bringing his knuckles to my healthy cheek. “I want to know how you feel.”

“Wait—was that a good thing?”

A slow, breathtaking smile stretched across his face, and desire curled low in my stomach, hot and aching. “Yeah, baby. It was a very good thing.”

I huffed. “Then why in the fuck—”

“I really don’t need my boss to walk in here and find me fucking you into your ugly green couch.” He cut me off, humor in his voice.

“Oh…right,” I mumbled. “Wait, hey!” I shoved his shoulder, and he pushed his tongue into his cheek. “My couch isn’t ugly.”

His hands came to my waist then, lifting me off him and depositing me onto said couch. “Looks like you got it from an old peoples’ home, Temper.”

“That doesn’t make it ugly!” I shot back, scrambling to my feet. I knew I should’ve shut my mouth, but I was proud of my green couch. She was unique and beautiful. It had taken me over a week to bring her back to life. “I’ll have you know that when I found this at an estate sale, I got the owners to cut the price in half! I got this for fifty bucks!” He shook his head, gave me his back, and opened the door. Unfortunately, I was on a roll, pacing back and forth now. “I spent two days vacuuming it and shampooing the cushions! I temporarily stole Michael’s drill and attached new legs and stitched up the tears on the backside. I gave this baby a second chance at life, and if you ever want to fuck me on it or into it, you’re going to appreciate its beauty!”

I finished when I was facing the kitchen, and I looked down at the couch with pride. When he didn’t answer, I laughed, “Yeah, I bet you want to take it back now—oh my fucking God.” I froze, my eyes going wide as they landed on Grayson, who was standing in the doorway, gun on his hip, his tattooed arms hanging at his sides.

He lifted the one with the red snake on it to his face, pinching the bridge of his nose, a deep, tired sigh leaving him. “I’m an only child, and never once have I ever wanted a fucking sister, especially after hearing horror stories from Hayes and Jake.” He shot Hayes a look before pointing at me. “Now I know how it feels to have a little sister, and Margo, I gotta say, right now, I don’t like it.”

I flinched. “You…you think of me like a sister?”

“Well, right now, I think of you as a pain in my fucking ass,” he clipped.

I nodded. “I’m sorry. I know you and Carrie like to spend your evenings together and I disrupted that. I’m so sorry.”

He was staring at me like I’d grown three heads, one wing, and a coiled tale. Blinking, he turned his head to Hayes, seeking clarification or…something. Hayes looked like he was seconds away from losing it. He cleared his throat, covering up his laughter.

“Protecting you isn’t a pain in my ass,” Grayson began slowly, stepping inside. Hayes shut the door and leaned back against it, his shoulders shaking as he stared at his feet. “Getting out of my warm bed to come here and walk into you talking about how my friend and business partner can’t fuck you into your couch until he admits it’s pretty is a pain in my ass, Margo.”

“Beautiful,” I corrected.

His head ticked to the side, eyes narrowing. “What?”

“Not pretty. Hayes needs to admit that it’s beautiful.”

Grayson was glaring now, his massive chest rising and falling slowly. Behind him, Hayes was looking at me, shaking his head, his lips twitching. “Fuck you,” I hissed. “You just got me in trouble.”

“I’m too old for this shit,” Grayson grumbled, moving to the window, staring down at the bar. A second later, he turned to us, all business. “I need a full debrief when you get back, Mitchell.”

“Right.” Hayes came to me, hooked his hand around the back of my head, and pressed his lips into my forehead. “I’ll be back.”
