I don’t even know where she’d come from, but I knew it was God because all Rafe needed to do was breath wrong and it was over. With the way I was feeling right now.
I tossed him away from me, then looked at his boys who stood around, not doing a damn thing.
“Get the fuck out of my spot! And you better be here bright and early or I know something.”
Each of them nodded as they practically tripped over their own feet, trying to get away from me. Rafe looked mad as hell but followed the rest along with their women out of the club. I turned around to see all eyes were on me.
“My bad, y’all. Each of y’all grab a drink on me. Don’t get crazy now and have a good night.” I spoke to the crowd, then headed for the stairs that led to my office.
They turned the music back up downstairs as folks lined up at the bar. I took the steps two at a time, needing a moment to myself to clear my head. I wanted to blame Solana for getting my emotions all out of wack but I couldn’t. Rafe had been pressing on my nerves for some time now and seeing him acting like he ran my shit. Only pushed me over the edge.
“What were you thinking?” Nessa said behind me.
I didn’t need to hear her bitching at me. I knew what had happened downstairs. I continued into my office and then turned to face her. She stood, gripping her hips with a scowl on her face.
“I don’t need to hear none of that. This is my shit and I can do what I please with it.” I told her, making my way over to my desk to take a seat.
Vanessa walked further into the room then tried to close the door behind her.
“Nah, leave it open.”
She smacked her teeth, then walked further into the room, sitting on the edge of my desk. For the first time, I realized she was wearing a short skirt. But damn if it didn’t affect me like it used to.
“You act like you don’t give a fuck about me anymore. All because you want to mess around with some baldheaded bit?—”
I glanced up quickly, glaring in her direction, stopping her from finishing that sentence. I wasn’t fucking with Solana either at the moment, but she wasn’t going to dog her out in front of me. Especially when I knew I still had feelings for her and not a single word Nessa spewed about her belonged in the same sentence as her name.
Nessa reached out and tried to drag her hand down the side of my face when someone cleared their throat. I looked up to see Solana standing in the doorway with a frown.
“I guess you’re busy.” She announced, then turned to leave.
“Solana. Stay… please.”
My back was stillto him.
I should just go, but it was something about the way my name rolled from his tongue. I knew if I turned around and looked up at him, I wouldn’t be able to leave even if I tried. But I had to. I couldn’t give up on the life I knew I deserved.
I released a breath, then turned to face him, ignoring the bitch still propped up on the edge of his desk.
“Nessa, get up off my desk like that and head out.” He told her.
She glanced back in his direction with wide eyes, like she couldn’t believe what he was saying to her.
“Are you serious, Duke? For her?”
He stood from behind his desk and pointed towards the exit.
“You gotta ask?”
She rolled her eyes and slid from the edge. Then turned back to face me with a scowl. She rushed toward where I’d beenstanding, so I tried to move out of the doorway. But she made it her mission to knock her shoulder into mine.
I slipped my foot out, tripping her. She dropped to her knees, then sprang back up like she was about to do something stupid. I didn’t know how Duke moved so fast, but he was already between us, blocking her from coming at me.
“Bitch, you got the right one!” she shouted.
“You bumped me. I’m only going to tell you this once. Don’t let the pretty face fool you and get yo’ ass whopped.”
Duke held her as she pushed at him to get to me.
