“Once a month. I record it and then air it on the first Monday of every month. Why?”

“Three weeks before the next one, then. Would you be willing to record one using a script from us?”

“If you think it will help, absolutely. I’ll do anything to help you find him.”

“Do your listeners communicate with you?” Cooper asked.

“Yes. I have a special email… Oh, his note is addressed to Kendall, and he says he’s a devoted fan.” Her gaze lifted to the screen again. “I should have picked up on that the first time I read it, but at the time, all I could think about was having Livie safely home and taking care of her. I podcast under a pen name,Kendra Hartley. I’m cautious about giving out my identity. He says he’s a devoted fan, but the note’s addressed to Kendall.”

“We picked up on that,” Cooper said.

She pushed away from the table. “I have to go.”

Chapter 15

Cooper caught Kendall’s hand, stopping her. “Go where?”

“To get Livie. What if he followed us? What if he’s here? He could be watching her right now.”

“He’s not.” He tugged her back down to her seat. “Unless he had a plane ready to take off when we did, he didn’t follow us. He doesn’t know where you and Livie are. He doesn’t know about me or The Phoenix Three. You’re safe. Livie’s safe, and that’s the way it’s going to stay.”

She blew out a breath. “Right, we flew.”

Grayson pushed his phone across the table. “Here, Kendall. Talk to Harlow. Let her tell you that Livie’s safe, then talk to Livie.”

“Thank you.” She took the phone, glanced at Cooper, then put it on speaker. “So you can hear.”

He could kiss her for that, for knowing he’d want to talk to his daughter, too.

She held the phone between them. “Hi, Harlow. Sorry to bother you. Is Livie behaving?”

“You’re not bothering me. She sure is, and she’s a sweetheart. At the moment, she and Tyler are sitting on the floor, teaching Ruby to roll over. They’ve been having a great time.”

He smiled at hearing the kids laughing in the background. “Can we talk to Livie a moment?” Hearing their daughter’s voice would ease Kendall’s mind.

“Sure. Livie, come here a minute and talk to your mom and Cooper.”

“Mommy, me and Tyler teached Ruby a trick.”

“Did you? You’ll have to show us when Cooper and I get there.”

“Cooper’s coming, too?”

He loved that she sounded excited to see him. “Hi, Princess. Yes, your mommy and I will see you in a little while.” He didn’t want to be Cooper to her. He wanted her to call him Daddy. He’d ask Kendall tonight when they could tell her.

“Tyler told me a joke. Wanna hear?”

“I sure do.”

“Okay. Why did the banana go to the doctor?”

“I don’t know.” He was the king of riddles and dad jokes—most of which he’d taught Tyler—and knew the answer, but he wasn’t going to steal his little girl’s fun.

“’Cause he wasn’t peeling well.” She giggled.

He and Kendall both laughed. “That was a good one, Princess.”

“I know. I got more.”
