“Bye, Dad.” I ended the call.
“I’d ask how your day was, but from what I just heard, I’d guess not so good.”
“He found a donor. That’s why he called.”
“Interesting.”
“It’s his secretary and they’re tying the knot.”
“Jesus.”
“Yeah. Let’s just forget about him. What did you bring for dinner?”
“All your favorites.”
He kissed my head, then started pulling out containers from the bags. As soon as the smell of shrimp lo mein hit my nose, I threw my hand over my mouth and ran for the nearest bathroom. My knees hit the floor and I got the toilet lid up just in time for my lunch to reappear.
“Sunshine. What the hell?” Duncan pulled my hair away from my face.
Once I was sure I wouldn’t throw up again, I sat back on my heels and flushed the toilet. Duncan placed a hand under my elbow to help me up, then didn’t leave my side while I brushed my teeth.
“Sorry about that.”
“Do you need me to take you to the doctor? I can call Waverly to come sit with the kids.”
“I saw the doctor this morning.”
“You did?” He tucked a lock of hair behind my ear. “Why didn’t you tell me? I would’ve gone with you.”
“Because I wanted to be sure.”
“Sure about what?”
“I’m pregnant.”
“Are you fucking with me, Sunshine?” His arms went around my waist as he hoisted me in the air. “I’m going to be a dad again?”
I leaned in, ghosting my lips across his.
“It’s twins.”
EPILOGUE
Duncan
Four months later
My wife was glowing.
My wife.
Some days I still couldn’t believe we were married. Sloane didn’t want a big ceremony and I didn’t want to wait any longer to finally claim her as mine, so…we eloped. After the insanity we’d dealt with since finding each other again, I suggested getting away for a few days. Just the four of us. We borrowed Finn’s company jet and took the kids to sunny Florida, to the most magical place on earth. Midway through our first family vacation, we said “I do” in front of a fairy-tale castle with only Rogan and Reagan at our side. It was the perfect way to mark the beginning of our forever.
Life couldn’t get any better. Actually, that was a lie. In under an hour, we were going to find out the sex of the babies. The girl gang had gone overboard planning our gender reveal party. I didn’t even know there was such athing, but apparently it was a huge deal. Since it was too cold to be outside in February, they’d decorated the inside of our house to the extreme. It was an explosion of pink and blue as far as the eye could see. They’d even decorated my kids for fuck’s sake. Reagan had on a hot pink shirt with the wordsBig Sisteracross the front, while Rogan’s baby blue shirt saidBig Brother.
“Hey,” Waverly sidled up next to me. “Why are you over here instead of hovering over your wife?”
“I’m soaking it all in.”
