“Just type in the code, Casanova,” Payton said and gave him the name of the campground. Payton crossed her fingers that it was right.

“Yes, ma’am.” Duke typed in the code. A green access granted sign came across the screen then loads of data filled it. Duke gave a low whisper, “Well, I’ll be.”

Payton looked closer at the screen. “Oh my God.”

Chapter 30

“There are a few weapons in the weapons armory we can use,” Colinsaid as they hastened down the hall but further toward the back of the building than the front.

Colin led him into the room and typed in a code on the wall to reveal a small array of guns. There were only handguns and knives, but it would have to do.

“You think it was Donaldson and Bradshaw, don’t you?” Colin asked as he slid a gun holster onto his hips and started loading it with guns.

“I don’t believe in coincidence.” Alex checked the clips to make sure they were loaded before tucking a gun in the back of his pants and a knife in his boot before holding one gun.

“They wouldn’t be stupid enough to attack us while on base.”

“They would if they were desperate. Nick is gone, and we have the flash drive. We are the only link they have left to find the Intel.”

“But they shouldn’t be able to get in,” Colin argued as they headed back down the hallway to the front door.

“Unless they know someone in this building to get them in,” Alex responded.

“Their boss,” Colin concluded.

“Did you ever find out about the security companies they work for?”

“The companies they work for don’t exist. Someone went through a lot of trouble creating shell companies.”

“Who could do something like that?”

“Someone that knows their way around a computer. So far we can’t find out who set up the companies.”

“So we’re dealing with a computer hacker.”

“Probably.”

They came to a halt at the front doors and looked outside. All seemed peaceful and quiet. Alex looked up to see two light bulbs were gone and glass on the ground which meant they had been purposely knocked out.

“What are you thinking?” Colin asked next to him.

“Something doesn’t seem right.”

“What do you mean?”

“It’s too convenient that we show up and are about to open the drive when the lights are knocked out.”

“You scent a trap?”

Alex couldn’t say he scented it, but his gut told him it was. He looked up at the roofline. There were a million places for a sniper to lie in wait and pick them off. The building was in a ‘U’ shape and easy to hide around. “I don’t like this. We should head back.”

“What if there are enemies outside?” Colin argued.

“Or what if it was a ruse to get us away from Payton.” Colin’s eyes opened wide. “What?” Alex didn’t like that look.

“There are two access points into this building. We just fell for the oldest trick in the book. They caused the distraction at the front so we wouldn’t see someone sneak in from the back.”

“Where is the other access point?”
