The women said their goodbyes, and Radley swiped to read the text that had just come in.It was nothing more than an address, but it was an additional clue. She slid her phone into her back pocket, her thoughts whirling as she strode through her new place.
Her eyes swept the empty living room, furnished with nothing more than a single sofa and entry-way table. She needed furniture.Art work.Cozy little throw blankets and decorative pillows.Maybe a plush rug in front of the gas fireplace where she and her lover could get busy in front of a roaring fire.Except wait—she was alone. And the last man she’d trusted, as a mere colleague, had betrayed her in the worst way possible.
She moved down the hall to her bedroom, her thoughts turning stormy once more.Radley had wandered the world for so long, it was somewhat surprising that she’d chosen to put down roots here in Seattle of all places. It wasn’t even sunny or warm.
She trusted Jett with her life, however. In turn, that meant she trusted Holt and the team of men she’d be working with.
And if it didn’t work out? She’d been on her own before, taking assignments with Riley, and she’d do it again if necessary. One thing Radley knew for certain—she would never depend on a man when she was one-hundred-percent capable of providing for and defending herself.Radley was a force to be reckoned with, and the men of Bravo Team would find that out sooner rather than later.
Chapter 3
––––––––
BOONE SCRUBBED A HANDover his face, grabbing his buzzing phone from the makeshift nightstand beside his bed.It was oh-six-hundred, but that was practically late for men used to rising at dawn with the military. He swiped the screen and read over the text from Holt.Although the team was meeting this morning, it appeared the boss would be sending him out shortly after that to assist another new hire on an assignment.
Holt:Change of plans. After the briefing this a.m., I need you with Radley.
Boone:Roger that, boss.
Holt:Surveillance work.I’ll get you the address.
Briefly, Boone wondered if Radley was the mysterious brunette he’d seen yesterday.Svelte, sexy, and smoking hot. That about summed her up.The black clothes she’d worn had hugged her curves so perfectly, they looked like they’d been made just for her.He had no doubt she’d look good without clothes on, too.Not that he’d be sleeping with a coworker.Mixing business with pleasure was never a good idea, and hell. She could be married for all he knew.
“Son of a bitch,” he muttered, rising to his feet.
Boone had been single for a long time, and he preferred it that way.It was simpler.Neater.He didn’t need strings tying him down when his job took him all over the world, often to dangerous locations. In the Army, he’d deployed on the government’s orders. Now he’d follow that same path, taking on jobs they didn’t want to dirty their hands with.
His life was complicated.Secretive.And he didn’t need a woman worrying over him when he couldn’t call home every night.
Boone stretched, and his gaze briefly swept the room.He had a bed, blinds on the window, and that was it.Cardboard boxes filled with his clothes and belongings lined the otherwise bare space.Someday, he’d get his shit unpacked, but he’d basically arrived on the West Coast and jumped in headfirst. Some of the guys who were already here had given him several listings for apartments, so at least he was ahead of the game and had rented a place. He’d done enough bunking with his buddies in his Army days and hotel living wasn’t for him either.
Muttering a curse, he crossed the room to dress. He might as well get in a workout before their morning briefing.Despite spending long nights at the pool hall for the past year, Boone was still an early riser. He spent hours at the gym in the morning, maintaining his muscular physique, and afternoons at the gun range, keeping his sharpshooter skills on point.Boone was positively lethal, and it felt good knowing he’d put his expertise to good use once more.
Two hours later, he was sitting in the conference room, his teammates filing in.Several of them had been there early as well, lifting or doing some cardio. With new staff being onboarded every week, Boone doubted the gym would be very empty for long.It was wild to be at the start of something new, standing up the west coast office and newest black ops team.Yet here he was, readying to get his first assignment with his teammates and rid the world of some evil.Kumbaya and all that shit.
Holt was already at his laptop, pulling up the slides for the briefing. He glanced at the clock on the wall as Xaden strolled in one minute past eight.
