“Whatever you want.”
Toby’s shy grin turned rueful, and he sighed quietly and pushed the door open. “If I had room in my head for all the things I want to do to you, I think I’d explode.”
He left me reeling.

Sleeping was impossible. I lay in my single bed, tossing and turning, remembering Cole’s hands on my skin and his cock pressing against me. I’d gone to his place with no real idea what he had in mind, but somehow knowing he wasn’t going to, like, actually fuck me or anything. I hadn’t imagined he’d torture me, though. Or that I’d leave with a harder dick than I’d arrived with.
But that’s what happened. And despite the sleepless night that followed, I had zero regrets.
Except the fact I had to wait forty-eight hours before we could do it again.
The next morning found me up before the sun. Joe wasn’t out yet, so I busied myself with all the jobs he hated and then got to work on the rest. I was walking the first lot of mares to the field when he wandered out of the main house, dark hair everywhere, face still creased from sleep as he clutched a cup of tea close to his chest. “The hell are you doing? I thought we were being burgled.”
“You were going to defend your homestead with PG Tips?”
“Dude, it’s five a.m.”
“It’s half-past, actually.”
Joe shot me a bemused glance and disappeared to deal with Shadow, the boisterous old stallion who ruled the stable block. He was in a bad mood, pulling and snorting as Joe led him out of his stall. Wild and dark, just like Joe, though I’d never dared say it. And until Cole had turned my head upside down, I’d thought Joe was beautiful too, just like Shadow, but this morning he just looked like Joe.
I went back to work. A few hours later, Harry called us in for breakfast. I looked for Cole, but he wasn’t there, and though he rarely was at breakfast time, my stomach still sank with disappointment. I needed my fix, and tomorrow seemed a lifetime away.
Unsettled, I pushed sausages around my plate with the mushrooms and sweet potatoes Harry had forced on me. The conversation around me was boring, so I let my mind drift to the previous night and tried not to die as I relived the noises I’d made when Cole had touched me. He’d told me it was hot, but I hadn’t believed him until he’d treated me to a rough moan of his own. I tried to recall exactly what I’d been doing to him at the time, but the evening was a blur of sensation, and all I got for my efforts was a boner I had to hide under the table.
My belly was too jittery to eat. I pushed my plate away. Joe gave me another odd look, but Harry took it without comment and gave me a mug of tea. He didn’t even say anything when I added two sugars, and life went on without me.
The day dragged on. I tried to keep busy to distract myself from the horny ants crawling under my skin as the afternoon seemed to get longer and longer. I couldn’t hear Cole’s name without heat pooling in my jeans and my stomach turning summersaults. Which was... unfortunate, as he’d met most of the staff now, and the gaggle of teenaged girls who worked in the stables after school were obsessed with him.
“Have you seen him with that baby? Talk about a DILF.”
I couldn’t argue with that, but hearing them talk about him like that irritated me in ways I couldn’t explain. So I retreated to the tack room to fix a shelf I’d long forgotten about.
The day was over when Joe came to find me. “Dinner.”
“Hello to you too.”
“Very funny. You’ve been banging about in here for hours. What are you even doing?”
I jerked my head at the mended shelf and the reorganised baskets of halters I’d stacked on top of it. “Stopping you having a tantrum every time you can’t find something.”
“I don’t do that.”
“Okay.”
“You getting sarky with me, kid?”
Joe mussed my hair, but I doubted he’d made it look worse than it already did. Trips to the barbers were as low on my list as they were on his. But still. I scowled at him all the same because it made him laugh, and I’d been around long enough to remember the days when we’d nearly lost Joe for good.
A shudder passed through me.
Joe cocked his head. “What’s up with you?”
“Nothing.”
