“I think you’re my…” he starts slowly. “My mate.”
I blink at him, confused for a moment. “Like, soulmate?” My heart starts to pound in my chest.
“Yes, it’s kind of like that. It’s different than humans think of,” he admits. “…my mate, in every sense of the word. I feel likeI’ve been looking for you, my entire life. I feel so drawn to you. Your blood…it calls to me. I’ve never felt this way before. I’ve only heard stories. Of when mates find each other.”
My eyes start to burn with tears. “You-You think I’m your mate…you really do?” I ask him.
He nods, and his eyes grow darker. “I would do anything to protect you. I know you’re meant to be mine.”
My breath hitches. “I feel so drawn to you too. Like…I was always meant to know you.”
“So, you feel the same?” he asks, and brushes a curl of my hair behind my ear.
My lips tremble.
“Are you scared?” he asks suddenly.
I shake my head and swallow. “No, no, that’s not why I’m crying.”
I chuckle and take a deep breath. “I’ve never felt this way before. I’m so…happy.” I smile through my tears.
Merc leans his forehead against my own. “Stay with me here?”
“Here? In your world?” I ask him.
“Yes. Stay with me here, and let me know you, Felicity,” Mercurius says to me. “Will you?”
I look him deep in his eyes, and brush my nose against his. Everything begins to feel as though it’s clicking into place.
“Yes.”
