Iwoke with a start and glanced around the room. It took a few moments for me to remember where I was, especially since I found myself all alone.

I quickly took care of things in the bathroom before nervously making my way downstairs. I was afraid Aaron wouldn’t be as accepting of my marital status after having some time to give it some thought.

I found Aaron standing in front of the stove cooking breakfast, clad in nothing but boxer-briefs. And, damn, the man wore them well.

“Quit staring at my firm ass and have a seat,” he said without turning around and punctuated his command by flexing first his left, then his right cheek.

Holy.

Shit.

As soon as I sat down, he left the stove and placed a cup of coffee in front of me, followed by a soft, lingering kiss on my lips. “Morning, baby,” he rumbled.

“Good morning,” I softly returned.

He laughed. “Oh, don’t go getting shy on me now.”

“I’m not,” I said as I took a sip of my coffee. I was a little surprised that he remembered how I liked my coffee; though, I shouldn’t have been, given everything else he still knew about me.

He brought two plates of food to the table and took a seat across from me. He began shoveling food into his mouth while I sat staring at his muscular chest.

When he looked up and caught me staring, he dropped his fork to his plate and leaned back in his chair, spreading his arms out wide. “Is that better?”

“Oh, shut up. I was just admiring your tattoos,” I lied.

“You never were good at lying. Good to see that hasn’t changed over the years,” he rumbled and began eating again.

I managed to tear my eyes away from him and tried to focus on eating my breakfast, but my eyes kept straying back to him, and every single time, his eyes were fixed on me.

“Come ‘ere,” he said and pushed back from the table.

When I was close enough, he grabbed my wrist and yanked me into his lap. “I know you’re scared and unsure about this, but give me the next few days to prove to you just how much I want this.”

“Okay,” I agreed before I even realized what I was saying.

“Good,” he said and slapped my ass. “Back to the bedroom. I’ve got a lot of work to do over the next three days.”

One Week Later

I turnedin Aaron’s arms to face him and pressed kisses along his chest. He tightened his arms around me and cleared his throat. “Macy, I need to tell you something.”

I stilled instantly. “What is it?”

“Hey, it has nothing to do with us. Well, it does, but not like you think. Fuck,” he sighed. “We have a tech guy in the club, and I asked him to do a little digging on your ex-husband just to be sure there wasn’t anything the club needed to know about. Anyway, did you know that Robert and your dad were business partners?”

I pushed to a sitting position and gaped at him. “What?”

“I’ll take that as a no.”

“I had no idea. That doesn’t make any sense. My father is one of the most sought-after oncologists this side of the Mississippi. Why would he want or need to go into the finance business with Robert?”

“I don’t know, and I don’t think we’ll know for sure without talking to your father, but I’m pretty sure I know why your douchebag ex-husband showed up wanting you back.”

Groaning, I covered my face with my hands. “I don’t want to know.”
