The rest of the ceremony goes by in a blur, though I speak my vows with a harsh voice that will carry to the very back of the cathedral.

Every guest here today will know that I am claiming this woman for my own and for eternity.

RÓISE

My grandmother's wedding dress rustles as I walk down the aisle toward my future.

Miceli is also my present. Last night, he serenaded me outside my window at the mansion. An Italian custom that gave him the opportunity to sneak inside and sleep beside me.

Mamo pretended not to notice the dent in the other pillow as she gave me the Irish linen handkerchief to tuck into my bodice. It will be used to make the Christening bonnet for my children one day.

Today, it will be used to soak up happy tears. I don't need the shamrocks embroidered in white silk floss around the hem of my gown to give me luck in my marriage with Miceli.

Our love is the only luck we need and it is as deep and abiding as the ocean.

The Honeymoon

MICELI

Henry Caruso smuggled himself out of the U.S. with the help of a lot of cash and one of his few remaining friends.

Too bad for him that I am a tenacious hunter. I always find my man.

When I tracked him down to Marseilles, I asked Róise if she wanted to honeymoon in the South of France.

After I kill the former capo who thought he could usurp my brother and act in our territory without our leave, I will take my beautiful new wife sailing in the Mediterranean.

Two out of Henry Caruso's three bodyguards snore when they sleep. The drug in their wine with dinner guaranteed that no one is awake to witness me breaking into the villa.

Getting away from my own bodyguards was trickier, but I managed it. Leaving without my wife knowing took more effort but exhausting her with orgasms worked better than drugs and was a lot more fun.

It is our honeymoon, after all.

Tonight, I complete my last job as my brother's underboss, something I will not delegate to anyone else.

Henry Caruso thought he could challenge our family and now he will pay with his life for his arrogance.

Besides, I won the rock, paper, scissors challenge with Salvatore for the right to send the former capo to hell.

Disabling the alarm is easy with the new app Domenico installed on my phone and I erase the camera footage on the computer attached to the monitoring station, making sure I delete the backup to the cloud too.

Henry wakes up when I sit on his torso, but my knife is already in his heart when he starts struggling.

"You don't challenge a De Luca and win," I tell him, twisting the blade.

"Fuck you."

"No thanks, only my wife gets that privilege." I punch his face to shut him up.

But it's not necessary. I know what I'm doing with my knife, and he bleeds out internally before he can get another word out of his mouth.

"It's so beautiful out here." Róise lays her head on my shoulder.

We're on a borrowed yacht small enough for a skeleton crew but large enough for our security detail to have quarters nowhere near our stateroom.

It's also a big enough craft to sail into deep waters outside currents that might carry a weighted body to shore.

There's no chemical soup here to dump Henry's corpse into, so I'm going old school. I mixed the cement myself and his cement shoes are currently curing around his feet in the hold.

Later tonight, after I make love to my beautiful wife, Henry Caruso is going swimming with the fishes.
